Salsa Magic Class & Membership Terms

These terms apply when you book and attend a Salsa Magic class, including any Beginner 1 course, Special Course, Drop In class or Private Lesson (collectively referred to as a ‘Class’ or ‘Classes’ in these terms), and for our Salsa Magic Membership packages. 


Code of Conduct 

At Salsa Magic we strive to create a fun, safe and comfortable space for our diverse community to learn, dance and socialise together. By attending our Classes or Events you agree to comply with our Code of Conduct.


Our Class Schedule

The most up to date versions of our Class Schedule is maintained on our website


Our Classes run through the year from late-January until mid-December. Our regular ongoing classes take a two week break in the middle of the year. 


From time to time we update our Class Schedule. We reserve the right to add, change or remove classes, and change instructors on our timetables at any time. 


Your Health 

Dancing is a fantastically fun form of exercise. But any form of exercise can cause physical injury, or create or increase risk for certain health conditions. You acknowledge that there are risks of physical injury or to your health that may result from participating in Salsa Magic Classes, and you voluntarily assume the risks associated with your participation. Our teachers are not medically qualified to assess if you are fit to exercise without risking your health. You acknowledge that it’s your sole responsibility to seek medical advice as required before starting or while coming to Classes with us.


Your information

We collect and hold personal information provided by you when you sign up to our classes, Membership packages, and events. We use this information to provide our Classes and events, and notify you of information relevant to our Classes, events and Membership. We may provide this information to third parties for the purposes of our studio management system (including our Salsa Magic Glofox App) and direct debit payments, for the purpose of running our events, or if otherwise required by law.


You can request the update or deletion of your information at any time.


Allowing us to use your image

We sometimes film and/or photograph Classes, performance team trainings, parties, our events and other activities at our studio. It is possible that you will appear in these materials. By accepting these terms, you grant us the unrestricted right and permission to use your image in printed or digital promotional material including, but not limited to: websites, social media, flyers, banners and videos. If your image does feature in our promotional material and you would prefer that it did not, just let us know and we will change it if it is reasonably practicable to do so. 


Cancelling pre-booked Classes

If you book and pay in advance for any of our classes, Beginner 1 courses, Special Courses or a private lesson, you may cancel and receive back the pre-paid class credit or a refund (as applicable) for your booking up until 24 hours before the start of that class, course or private lesson. 


You acknowledge and agree that if you cancel a pre-booked Class less than 24 hours before that Class is due to start, you will lose the pre-paid class credit or payment (as applicable) for the Class. 


We do not offer refunds or partial refunds for unused class credits or unattended courses.


Salsa Magic Membership

A celebratory dance move required on sign up. This clause is legally enforceable upon reasonable request from our Front Desk Team!


Your Membership is yours, it is non-transferable. 


Membership class credits

Membership class credits are available for use each week. Unused credits do not accrue from one week to the next and they are non-refundable.


Changes to your Membership plan

You may upgrade your Membership at any time. 


If you are on a ‘cancel anytime/ Membership, or if you are on a minimum term Membership and the minimum term has been completed, you can downgrade your Membership anytime. You can do this by emailing us at salsamagic.nz@gmail.com. An administration fee of $25 may apply to any Membership downgrade. 


Pausing your Membership

You can pause your Membership for a minimum of 3 weeks, up to twice a year. You can do this by emailing us at salsamagic.nz@gmail.com. There may be an administration fee of $25. 


Ending your Membership

‘Cancel anytime’ Memberships: You may cancel your Membership anytime with 1 week’s notice. You can do this by emailing us at salsamagic.nz@gmail.com.


Minimum term Memberships: If you wish to cancel your Membership before the end of the minimum term, any Membership fees owed for the remainder of the term must be paid prior to cancellation. There will be an administration fee of $25. If your cancellation request is due to sickness, being incapacitated, or circumstances beyond your reasonable control, we will seek to agree a reasonable refund reduction with you.


We may end your Membership with us at any time with 2 weeks’ notice.


Please submit any Membership upgrade, downgrade, pause or cancellation request by email to salsamagic.nz@gmail.com for us to process and for our records.


Membership payment terms - direct debits

You agree to pay your Membership fees from your nominated bank account via the direct debit of your nominated bank account up until your Membership is ended. This includes any applicable administration fee payments or payments owing due to the early termination of a minimum term Membership, as set out in these terms. 


It is your responsibility to ensure that there is enough money in your account for your direct debit payments.


Your Membership fees will be debited from your account on the same day weekly in advance.


Your Membership payments will show on your bank statement as ‘Gocardless’ with ‘Salsa Magic’ as a reference.


You can change your nominated bank account at any time by request or via our Salsa Magic Glofox App.


Changes to our fees and/or these terms

From time to time, we may change our fees and/or update these terms. 


If we do change our fees or update these terms, we will give you notice of those changes. 


If you are on a Salsa Magic Membership package, you can choose not to accept changes to our Membership fees or these Membership terms as the case maybe, and cancel your Membership by giving us notice by email to salsamagic.nz@gmail.com within 14 days of our notice to you, or otherwise as noted in these terms.


Consumer and relevant law

Nothing in these terms is intended to limit or reduce your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993. New Zealand law applies.

Code of Conduct


At Salsa Magic, we are committed to creating a fun, safe, and inclusive space where our diverse community can learn, dance, and connect. By attending our classes or events, you agree to uphold the values and expectations outlined in this Code of Conduct.


From time to time we may update this Code, the updated version of this Code is on our website.


Respect and Etiquette


• Be kind and treat everyone with respect.

• Wear dance appropriate clothing, and maintain good personal hygiene - things like a fresh top, deodorant and mints will be appreciated by your dance partner.

• Be considerate of others and avoid behavior that disrupts the class or event.

• If you’re unwell, please stay home.

• Do not offer unsolicited feedback or dance tips to others. Please leave teaching to our instructors.



Personal Boundaries and Consent


• Dance respectfully and at a level appropriate for both you and your dance partner.

• Be aware of your dance partner’s comfort with closeness. If they step back or leave space between you, respect that distance.

• It’s okay to say no to a dance. Each dance and body contact and movements within a dance must be consensual.

• Always respect personal boundaries. Unwelcome or inappropriate advances are not acceptable.

• Only film or photograph others with their knowledge and consent.

• Bullying, harassment, aggression, or discrimination have no place in our community. This includes making false or malicious complaints.



Safe Dancing Practices


• Look after your dance partner and be aware of others around you on the dance floor.

• Inform your instructor and dance partner if you have any injuries or movement restrictions.

• Be careful when attempting dips or movements requiring flexibility.

• Avoid lifts or tricks unless they are part of a supervised choreography or explicitly agreed upon with your dance partner. Lifts and tricks are not for social dancing.



Studio and Venue Conduct


• Keep food and drinks (other than water) out of the dance studios.

• Treat studio and venue property with care and clean up after yourself.

• Do not bring any drinks (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) onto the dance floor to avoid spills and slips.

• Follow the instructions of the venues and people that host our classes or events. Follow all rules regarding ID, dress code and conduct.

• Help us maintain a beautiful and welcoming space for everyone.



Alcohol Consumption at Events


• Our showcase and social event promotion will indicate whether alcohol is permitted or available for purchase.

• Alcohol may only be consumed responsibly and in accordance with the law.



Misconduct


We are committed to addressing concerns fairly and respectfully. Breaches of this Code may result in removal from classes and/or events. In some cases, we may also engage with other dance school directors in the region to support the safety and comfort of the wider Wellington Latin dance community.



How to Raise a Concern


If you experience or witness a breach of this Code of Conduct, please speak with a member of the Salsa Magic teaching team or email us at salsamagic.nz@gmail.com. We will handle all concerns with discretion and care.
